Shortwood Farm

Farming Ethics

AfricanAs farmers, we believe it is our role to act as guardians of the countryside, and it is our duty to nurture and protect the land we own for the generations to come. It is for this reason we chose to become an organic farm in 2000; we are registered with the soil association and we are proud to farm according to their standards.

We source as much of our food locally as possible, and we only use Fair Trade coffee, tea and chocolate in our tea-room.

Over the years, we have also become deeply involved with the charity, Send A Cow, which helps African farmers work their way out of poverty. We have created our own African Farmyard at Shortwood to raise awareness of the charity’s work, and to show visitors how Send A Cow helps people to build effective farms.
